Hm, let's see here...I wrote this a while ago, but couldn't post it on FFN because of the "no songfics" rule...Enjoy. XD

He had grown up knowing nothing.
So when he came into his life and opened all the doors and windows, Hyuuga Neji didn’t know what to do.
It was fate that put him, a prodigy and a genius, in the branch family. It was fate that made his cousin, a feeble, diffident girl, more important, more cherished, than he was. And it was fate that caused him to meet that optimistic, hyperactive brat.
Ah, Kami-sama was always testing his patience in some way or another.
What a pathetically despondent dream. Even birds have their limits; when they’re too tired to continue flapping their wings, they’ll eventually fall.
Neji stared at the sky in wonder. Fate had gone against him once again. How did this…this idiot win in a match against him?
But as Neji watched a bird take off from its perch on a tree, he realized that no matter how high it flew, it would never surpass the sun.
And I will never see the sky the same way and
I will learn to say good-bye to yesterday and
I will never cease to fly if held down and
I will always reach too high cause I've seen, cause I've seen, twilight
Neji lay in the field of the training grounds. He had never regretted anything he’d ever done, and he thought that he never would. But then again, even geniuses made mistakes once in a while.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, as foreign footsteps were heard amongst the rustling of the leaves.
“Tch. Thanks for the warm welcome. Are you being a sore loser, or just being your friendly self?”
“I choose not to answer.” He stood to face the intruder of his peace. Eyes met; blue sky, white clouds. As each of the pair contemplated their next words, silence ensued and hung empty in the air.
“So,” the other began, “what are you going to do now?”
Neji shrugged. “For starters, I might apologize for not believing in her.”
“And then?”
“Who knows?” he questioned distantly, almost as if he were asking himself.
The blond chuckled. “So even prodigies are lost sometimes, eh?”
Neji almost laughed, against his better judgement. He settled for a smirk at the once failure of a ninja. “So even a dropout idiot like yourself can beat me, huh?”
He had lost. He had lost not only against himself, but also to Uzumaki Naruto.
He had been proven wrong.
And he believes in the inevitable; he believes in the never-changing fate that will never cease to exist. He believes in what isn’t true, because the power to change the future lies within himself.
I actually tried to post this before, but the LJ - cut wasn't working properly for me...-_-"

I was stained with a role, in a day not my own
But as you walked into my life, you showed what needed to be shown
And I always knew what was right, I just didn't know that I might
Peel away and choose to see with such a different sight
He had grown up knowing that if need be, he would give his life to protect his cousin, the heiress of the clan. He had grown up knowing that if he disobeyed the orders of the main family, he could easily be killed. He had grown up knowing only the cage and confines that were the Hyuuga compound and the Academy. But as you walked into my life, you showed what needed to be shown
And I always knew what was right, I just didn't know that I might

Never cared, never wanted
Never sought to see what flaunted
So on purpose, so in my face. Couldn't see beyond my own place
And it was so easy not to behold what I could hold
But you taught me I could change whatever came within these shallow days
Fate; Neji had always believed in that. It wouldn’t change, and it couldn’t change; that’s just the way it was. There was no point in trying to go against it.Never sought to see what flaunted

As the sun shines through, it pushes away and pushes ahead
It fills the warmth of blue and leaves a chill instead, and
I didn't know that I could be so blind to all that is so real
But as illusion dies I see there is so much to be revealed
He had always wished to be like a bird; to be able to escape the chains which tied him down. To be free to fly as high as he wanted, and to soar above even the tallest of trees which cradled the sky.It fills the warmth of blue and leaves a chill instead, and
